June 08, 2010 By: bubbachewie Category: Uncategorized

WASHINGTON — Nobody led.

Not the president of the United States. Not the chief executive of BP. Not Congress, federal agencies or local elected officials. From its fiery beginning, the Gulf oil spill has stood as a concentrated reminder of why, over four decades, Americans have lost faith in nearly every national institution.

Kobe Bryant’s wife Vanessa wore a shirt last night to the Lakers-Suns game that said, “DO I LOOK ILLEGAL?”

May 19, 2010 By: bubbachewie Category: Political

Funny she brings it up as the future Mrs. Bryant, Vanessa Laine, was 17 when she met Kobe for the first time. Of course, that illegality had nothing to do with immigration. (Though you could make a case for sneaking over the border.)

May 08, 2010 By: bubbachewie Category: Political

WASHINGTON (AP) – The new health care law already is helping millions of people through tax breaks for small businesses and assistance for families with young adults, President Barack Obama said Saturday.
In his weekly radio and Internet address, Obama promoted his top domestic priority, which passed Congress with no Republican votes and continues to stir strong emotions nationwide. He acknowledged that many provisions will not take effect for years. But he said others are doing some families good now.

Texas closely watching immigration law

April 28, 2010 By: bubbachewie Category: Political, Texas

AUSTIN — Texas lawmakers are closely watching Arizona’s get-tough immigration law, with Democrats saying the legislation is wrongheaded while some Republicans say they’ll push for similar action here.

“The first priority for any elected official is to make sure that the safety and security of Texans is well-established,” said Rep. Debbie Riddle, R-Tomball. “If our federal government did their job, then Arizona wouldn’t have to take this action, and neither would Texas.”
